Ibsaa, stop following the world and start following God.

36 For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?

– Mark 8:36 (ESV)

Your value in life is not determined by what you have. Stop focusing on who you are, but rather whose you are.

And you are God’s prized possession.

Remember that!

God created you out of love; not because He had to but because He wanted to. He wanted to express His unfailing love towards you. It’s time to receive it.

This world we live in is making you forget about God and His sovereign power and love.

You open the news app on your phone and you see the Kardashians idolized; you turn on the television and see LeBron James labeled “The King” and seems untouchable. Then you look at yourself and see nothing. You see a broke, 27 year old living under his grandmothers roof.

You know why you see nothing? Because you keep measuring your worth and value to the world’s standards and not God’s.

So you mean to tell me God loves LeBron James more than the homeless man down the street.

No way!

Though the world may think that way, remember what Jesus said in John 17:16 (NIV):

“They are not of the world, even as I am not of it.”

Don’t be of this world Ibsaa. This world is temporary and so are the people in it. However, God is not.

God is forever!

If you die tomorrow, your human body may be gone, but your spirit lives forever with God if you believe in His son Jesus Christ and obey His commandments.

“The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.”

1 John 2:17

Ibsaa, it’s been tough because nobody taught you this. Or maybe they did, but you don’t remember. Maybe you didn’t care to listen because all the pain you were are going through.

God loves you and wants you to stop comparing yourself to others. It’s not healthy and it’s not godly. So stop, please.

Remember whose you are and nothing else.

You are a child of God. A prized possession of The Father and The Creator of the universe. God knew you before you were born (Jeremiah 1:5) and had you in mind when He sent Christ to die for your sins. You are not a mistake, but rather a blessing sent by God to be used by God for His Kingdom.

Remember that always.

It may be tough to remember these promises of God, especially living in San Francisco where money & power seem to be king. But when those thoughts start to creep in that you may not be good enough, smart enough, handsome enough – remember the true King in Jesus.

Nobody is, was or will ever be as perfect and blameless as our Lord and Savior.

Though people may look perfect on the outside, as they may have a fancy car, nice house and travel around the world – those things are all temporary.

Refocus your attention on what’s permanent and can never be taken from you and that’s your relationship with God.

19 “Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal.

Matthew 6:19-20 (NLT)

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

John 3:16 (NIV)
